Directions
Add the hazelnuts to the food processor and blend until the nuts turn into a paste (about 5 minutes).
Add the oil, vanilla, salt, cacao powder, and coconut sugar, and blend until all ingredients are incorporated (about 5 minutes).
Add the melted chocolate and blend until the mixture looks smooth and shiny (about 10 minutes). Remove the blade from the food processor.
(Optional Step) Place the fine mesh strainer over a bowl and pour the mixture into the strainer. Use a spatula to scrape all the chocolate hazelnut spread out of the food processor. Using the spatula stir the chocolate hazelnut spread in the strainer and let it drip into the bowl. Remove the strainer once all the chocolate hazelnut spread has dripped through into the bowl.
Pour the chocolate hazelnut spread into the jars and seal tightly with the lids. Place in the refrigerator.
The chocolate Hazelnut Spread will keep fresh in the refrigerator for 2 weeks. Enjoy fresh fruit, pretzels, or spread on toast!

Recipe Note
Hazelnuts are one of the healthiest nuts you can eat, packed with micronutrients such as antioxidant vitamin E, magnesium, manganese, copper, various B vitamins, as well as phytosterols and polyphenols. Additionally, hazelnuts provide about 5 g of plant-based protein per serving, are over 80% monounsaturated fats, and contain 3g of dietary fiber per serving to help meet daily macronutrient needs. These nutrients are all great for heart health which can help to maintain healthy cholesterol levels, reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, promote healthy metabolism and digestion, and can help aid in weight loss and management.
This recipe serves as a healthier alternative to common processed store-bought chocolate nut butter spreads that are full of added sugars and a long list of additives. Also, by pairing our toasted hazelnuts with other ingredients like cacao powder which is the unprocessed form of chocolate, and another healthy unsaturated fat source like avocado oil we are enhancing the benefits you will receive from the hazelnuts alone.
This recipe is similar in overall caloric density to standard Nutella, however, in 17g which is equal to about 1 tbsp, this recipe only has 0.7g of added sugar whereas most store-bought chocolate spreads have close to 9g. The recommendation for overall health is to keep daily added sugar intake to less than 10% of overall caloric intake in a given day.
This recipe is also a great option for meal prepping and can be added to morning oatmeal bowls, loaded breakfast toasts with slices of natural sugar in the form of fresh fruit, or even as a healthy sweet and salty treat on the go drizzled over some of our Nature’s Garden Keto Snack Mixes. Whether you are a chocolate lover or looking for a way to increase your intake of healthy fat sources in your diet, this recipe is one to try out!
